Text Box: The Digest Project
The Fishing Vessel Digest continues to be a work in progress — one that started for me in 1983 when I assisted Coast Guard District One in the revision of the first Fisherman’s Digest.

After the adoption of the ‘new’ Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety regulations in 1991, I wrote — with the cooperation of a colleague in the CG DONE (m) —  a series of articles in which we tried to translate the regulations into English.

Later I converted those articles to chapters for a ‘new’ Fishing Vessel Digest that I hoped the Coast Guard might publish — that never happened.

For more on the rational on this effort please see the introduction.

A Special Message to District Coordinators and Dockside Examiners — PLEASE read over the chapters and PLEASE advise me of any errors or omissions.

I hope you find the Digest useful.

Disclaimer: While very effort has been made to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the Fishing Vessel Digest information, we make no warranty as to the accuracy of the information provided.

Fishing vessel owners and operators should if they have any questions consult their local dockside examiner or District Fishing Vessel Safety Coordinator.

The complete regulations are at —  46 CFR Part 28
And please  get a dockside examination of your vessel.
It is free
It is voluntary
It could save your life!
